Japan's Oldest Farmhouse: The Ishida Residence
- Photo Spot
- Children welcome
- Parking available
The Ishida House in Kashihara, Ono District, was designated a National Important Cultural Property in May 1972 as Japan's oldest farmhouse due to its clearly documented construction date.
It is a typical early Kitayama-style folk house, with all interior walls finished in wooden paneling. The doors are single-sliding wooden panels, and tatami mats were laid only in the formal sitting room.
Hand-hewn finishes can be seen on the beams and pillars.
