Local Specialties and Famous Products
Natto mochi
In Hiyoshi Town, there is a custom of eating natto mochi during the first three days of the New Year, and in some areas of Kyoto's Tamba region, it has been revered as kagami mochi. In the old days, it was so large you could hold it in your arms; people would roast it over the hearth or warm it to eat. Those working in the mountains or transporting Kitayama cedar would wrap small natto mochi in belly wraps to carry as portable food.
Yamada Seiyu Sesame Factory
A long-established sesame oil producer in Kyoto preserving traditional methods. We meticulously craft aromatic sesame oil through careful handwork from roasting to pressing. Visitors can tour the factory to witness the production process and experience the charm of sesame up close.
